PLUNKET APPEAL SUCCESSFUL

READY PUBLIC RESPONSE MORE THAN £7OO RAISED There was an excellent response to the Plunket Society’s annual violet day street appeal held yesterday. Amounts received from the various collectors up till last evening totalled more than £7OO. The secretary of the society (Mrs Cecil Wood) said last evening that members of the executive were highly satisfied with the result of the appeal, which had had wonderful support from the public. During the 36 hours before the appeal began, members of the executive all worked extremely hard preparing for the sales in the stalls and on the streets, Mrs Wood said. Many of the workers were on duty for 24 hours out of the 36, and throughout the day yesterday all members and all the volunteer collectors from many women’s organisations worked at top speed to satisfy the demand for vegetables, preserves, and cakes in the stalls and to supply the very popular violets and other spring flowers to an eager public. The stall in Victoria square and the depot in the Canterbury Jockey Club’s rooms were both highly successful.
