Mr J. E. Thomas, Dominion Rationing Controller, has been invited to address the council of the New Zealand Drapers’ Federation at Christchurch this week. In recognition of the valuable services he had given the association. Mr Guy Ward (Swannanoa) has been elected an honorary life member of the Rangiora Returned Services’ Association. The chairman of the Waimairi County Council (Cr. W. G. Chapman) was unable to attend last evening’s meeting of the council because of illness, and Cr, C. E. Cross presided in his absence. The council expressed sympathy with Cr. Chapman. The Rev. W E. D. Davies, vicar of St. Matthew’s, who recently returned from Suva, has accepted the cure of Upper Hutt, Wellington, for the duration of the war. The Rev. E. C. W. Powell is remaining at St. Matthew’s during Mr Davies’s absence. Sympathy with the assistant electrical engineer to the Waimairi County Council (Mr C. Burrowes) in the death of his son. (Sergeant T. B. Burrowes, R.N.Z.A.F.) was expressed by the County Council last evening. The Rev. W. Walker (president of the New Zealand Methodist Conference) and Mr G. B. Lill (vice-presi-dent) arrived in Dunedin last evening and will travel to Invercargill to-day, returning to Dunedin on Saturday.
