Major-General A. S. Wilder and Mrs Wilder, who have been liwing on Cashmere Hills, have now taken up residence in Mrs A. C. Cottrell’s house, Merivaie lane. Mrs Wildei is at present visiting Hawke’s Bay. Miss Ngaio Marsh. Mrs Guy Cotterill, Miss N. Enright, Mrs L. Reesby, and Miss M. Brinkman, members of the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society, will leave to-morrow for a short visit to Dunedin. Mrs Lawrence Wilson (Colombo street north) and Mrs Andrew Russell (Bretts road) are spending a few days in Wellington to attend the council meeting of the Dominion Federation of Townswomen’s Guilds. Mrs W. H. Tombs (Heaton street) is spending a holiday at Hanmer Springs. Mrs A, H, Tocker (Murray place) is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. D. Sievwright, Wellington. Miss M. P Lowery has been appointed temporarily as secretary of the Automobile Association (Southland) during the absence on military service of Mr F. W. G Miller. Miss Valerie Riddiford (Clyde road) has been visiting Mrs H. V. Hoadley, Havelock North. Mrs G. E. Waterworth (Napier) arrived from the north yesterday to visit her parents, Major and Mrs R. F. W. Ashworth, Heaton street. Mrs Robinson Hall and Mrs R. C. Jamieson will leave to-morrow for a short visit to : Dunedin. Mrs F. J. T. Grigg presided at the meeting of the Canterbury Association of the New Zealand Federation qt University Women on Tuesday everting, when Dr. R. A. Falla spoke about museums, illustrating his lecture with lantern slides. Mrs P. J. Twomey thanked the speaker. Mrs J. S. Kelly (Kilmore • street west) collected for Violet Day yesterday for the twenty-ninth consecutive year. She collected £l7 7s. Latest donations for the Mayoress’s Parcels Fund included £73 from the Christchurch Central Townswomen’s Guild: £5 from Mrs J. Fleming and Mr B. Fleming; and £SB from the North Canterbury Post and Telegraph Women’s Association. Mrs F. Curtis (president of the MidCanterbury Red Cross Centre) and Mrs J. Bennett i secretary) were visitors to Christchurch yesterday when the spinal chair presented to the North Canterbury Hospital Board by Red Cross units in Mid-Canterbury was handed over to the board. The spinal chair will be used for the benefit of returned soldiers. The Next-of-Kin’s Society’s monthly social gathering, held yesterday afternoon at the Welcome Club, was well attended and was very enjoyable. Mrs F. C. Thornton, president of the society, welcomed the guests and an interesting address on the Campaign for Christian Order was given by Mrs A. K. Warren. The Mayoress (Miss E. Cduzins) thanked the committee and the guests for the generous support they had given to the Mayoress’s Parcels Fund, and invited them .o attend a party in the Welcome Club next Thursday afternoon, when she would give a report on the result of the appeal.
