CRICKET

SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION ELASTIC RULES APPROVED Elastic arrangements under which cricket will be carried on with a minimum of tedious conforming with regulations. and which will meet as nearly as possible the position of men on war work or in the forces, were ratified by the Christchurch Suburban Cricket Association at the annual meeting last evening. The decisions leave a great deal to the sportsmnashlp of clubs and to the management of games controllers in dealing with "post” entries likely to occur each Saturday when team deficiencies must be made up from men unexpectedly available to play. To counteract the effect of a team playing more than 20 players in a season because of withdrawals and having to pay fees for each, a resolution was passed whereby clubs will be responsible for the registration fees of a maximum of 13 players in each team. All additional members must be registered, but no fee will be required. To meet the occasion, players may be distributed among other grades, at the discretion of the club authorities, if there is a surplus of players in one grade through unexpected members' of the armed forces seeking a match. It was decided to suspend all trophies, but to allot points as usual. It was considered that war-time results were not a true indication of the competition. The annual report said that although misgivings were felt at the beginning of last season it was found that the number of registered players increased from 1016 to 1031. One-day matches had been popular and had prompted keen competition and a good standard. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £llß 12s. The following officers were elected: — Patron. Mr H. W. Rogers; president, Mr W. C. Aitken; vice-presidents, Messrs S. Cawtheray. P. Egan, D. Stokes, R. E. Thomas, L. Hood, Lieutenant E. Cox, and Gunner A. J. Smith; secretary, Mr D. L. Mitchell; treasurer, Mr H. H. Forward; auditor. Mr W. H. Down; management committee. Messrs R. Smith, E. Brook, H. Bampton, T. Taylor, F. Davison. L. Booth, C. Barrow, H. Sail. L. A. Mahoney. F. Kiddey, and Sergeant J. B. Cull.
