CONVOY BATTLE IN ATLANTIC

GERMAN CLAIMS LONDON, Sept. 13. A special communique from Hitler's headquarters states; "A convoy battle of great magnitude is now going on in the Atlantic.” The communique claims that 18 Allied ships totalling 121,000 tons have been sunk. MALTA’S GEORGE CROSS LONDON, Sept. 13. Malta’s George Cross was officially handed over by the Governor and Commander-in-chief at Malta (General Lord Gort) to Sir George Ward, Chief Justice on the island, yesterday. The First Coast Regiment of Royal Malta Artillery mounted a guard of honour and all three fighting services were represented. Arrangements are being made for the public of Malta to see the George Cross, and after the war it will be hung in the historic church of the Knights of St. John Hospitallers at Valetta.
