CLIMBERS STILL MISSING
SEARCH CONTINUED AT WEEKEND The search for Messrs A. D. Jackson and F. Tozer, who are missing in the Cass Valley region near Tekapo, was continued during the week-end. No trace of the two men had been reported late last evening. Yesterday, the finest day in the district for the last fortnight, Mr R. L. Wigley, of Timaru, conducted a search by aeroplane. He flew twice over the peak on which the climbers are presumed to have been lost, and about noon saw the search party on the high ridge leading to the peak. Trying conditions made observation difficult, and Mr Wigley was unable to locate the missing men. It was reported from. Tekapo last evening that the search party was still out. ' Indications are that the missing men have become lost on high, difficult country. Tracks were found by searchers on top of a ridge about 7000 feet above the Waterfall Hut. The tracks led in a northerly direction towards a rocky unnamed peak, which it is thought Mr Jackson intended climbing. These traces of the climbers were discovered about four hours’ climb from the Waterfall Hut. The searchers have been joined by Mr D. Bryant, of Waitaki Boys’ High School, who has had wide mountaineering experience. Members of the South Canterbury Alpine Club, who are engaged in the search; together with four other men, are using the Tin Hut. as their base. Four others are working from the Waterfall Hut.
