VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 13. On Saturday afternoon at a parade held at Government House a cheque for £3628, which had been collected by New Zealand girl guides and brownies, was presented to the Gov-ernor-General (Sir Cyril Newall), as chairman of the National' Patriotic Fund Board. His Excellency was present at a Scout Commissioners’ conference on Saturday evening. Mr C. S. Thompson has beep reelected president of the Canterbury Cricket Association. Congratulations to Mr F. Wilding, K.C., on the approach of his ninetieth birthday were expressed at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association on Saturday. The president (Mr C. S. Thompson) said that Mr Wilding, one of the three life members of the association, was still in good health, and all cricketers would wish that he might reach his “hundred.” The Rev. A. D. Lowe, who has been the minister at the Ashburton Church of Christ for the last three years, announced at services at the church yesterday that he had accepted a call to the church at Oamaru and would leave Ashburton in December. Mr Lowe received his training at the Dunedin Theological College, the church at Ashburton being his first appointment. Sympathy with the relatives of Mr T. H. North, who had died the previous evening, was expressed at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Association* on Saturday. Mr North, who was a member of the Lancaster Park Cricket Club, represented Canterbury from 1893 to 1897. Mr H. L. Gibson, of Dunedin, has been re-elected president for the fourth successive year 1 of the South Islands Travel Association.
