The Mayor (Mr E, H. Andrews) said yesterday that no decisions on a uniform. fire-watching system for New Zealand cities had been made at the conference which he attended in Wellington last week. His refusal to follow the recommendation of the''Dominion Fire Controller (Mr R. Girling Butcher) and adopt a continuous system for Christchurch was praised by other representatives at the conference. Mr Andrews said he had learned nothing to change his opinion that a continuous system in Christchurch was impossible as well as unnecessary.
