Labour Disputes In Canada.—The Canadian Labour Department has reported 73 strikes and lock-outs, with the loss of 54,402 man working days in July, compared with 54 strikes losing 41,232 man days in June.—Ottawa, September 9. Standard Wedding Rings.— Standard wedding rings in Britain will in the future weigh 2dwt, and will be struck with an appropriate mark. The maximum retail price will be 25s 6d.— Rugby. September 9. Rubber From West Indies.—The Secretary for the Colonies (Lord Cranborne) said in the House of Lords that all available resources qf rubber in British Guiana and other West Indian territories were being tapped. He added that raw rubber from these areas would be exported exclusively to the United States.—Rugby, September 9. Pay for Holiday Work.—Mr Roosevelt has signed an executive order abolishing double payment for work on Sundays and holidays as such, but permitting double payments for work on the seventh consecutive day, thus encouraging one day of rest in the week.—Washington, September 9. Taxi Restriction in New York.—An order strictly curtailing taxi-cabs in New York will remove 3000 vehicles from the streets and save 10,000,000 gallons of petrol a year.—New York, Sept. 9. > Tax Increase in United States.—The Finance Committee of the United S|ptes Senate has confirmed its previous tentative action by adopting an additional 5 per cent, victory tax on gross incomes, to become effective on earnings as from January I.—Washington. September 9. Middle East Air Appointments.—Air Vice-Marshal H. P. Lloyd has been appointed Senior Staff Officer at headquarters of the Royal Air Force in the Middle East.—Rugby. September 9.
