NEW CHIEF AUDITOR APPOINTED
BANK OF NEW ZEALAND POST (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 15. The resignation of Mr A. L. Hempton, chief auditor of the Bank of Nsw Zealand, was announced by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) today. Mr Hempton will finish his duties at the end of the month. He has held the position since Decemlier, 1930. He joined the Bank of New Zealand in 1889, and, after serving at several places in the Dominion, was assistant London manager for two years. He was assistant general manager from 1927 to 1930. Mr Fraser expressed the Government’s appreciation of Mr Hempton’s faithful and efficient service.
Mr D. F. Reid has been appointed to succeed Mr Hempton. Until recently Mr Reid was London manager. He is a Southlander, who joined the Colonial Bank of New Zealand in 1894, and transferred to the Bank of New Zealand on the amalgamation. From 1914 to 1932 he was manager at Dargaville, Feilding, Palmerston North, and Wellington, in that order. He was then appointed manager in London. He has been chairman of the British Overseas Banks, the Associated Australian Banks, the New Zealand Society. London, and the New Zealand War Services executive committee. He _ has also been vice-president of the British Bankers’ Association.
