TYRES OF HOME GUARD VEHICLES

A.f " WELLINGTON, August 15. “The" Army is unable to accept the responsibility of providing for the replacement of tyres of vehicles used for Home Guard purposes,” said the Minister of Primary Production (the Hon. W. J. Poison) to-day. "Guardsmen who require replacements will be.required to apply for a licence in the ordinary way.” Mr Poison said it had been decided that provision i.as to be made to exfrgm/parades whetr battalion commanders were satisfied' that -ja,.meßj^r..."wag,-vMfluired' for essential seasons. Other' decisions ’.’wet'd"tfl&t 'one Army vehicle wfauld be'madei'available for the headquarters of each battalion, and members of the Home Guard who had passed the compulsory-age of 51 would be required, to continue to serve. Mr Poison said that it might be necessary to extend the «ge for Hsme Guard service. He added that members were required to parade in civilian clothing until uniforms were issued.
