ELECTRIC LIGHTING CHARGES

REDUCTION SOUGHT AT SUMNER The reduction of charges for electric light was discussed by the Sumner Borough Council on Monday when the charges made in other districts compared with those in Sumner. The Mayor (Mr J, E, Tait) said that it should be possible to reduce the maximum charge for lighting from 4d to 3id, which would mean a total reduction of about £416 at the present rate of consumption. Cr, P. C. Fenwick said that he thought it would be a better policy to leave the matter until after the war.

Cr. E. T. Chitty agreed with Cr. Fenwick because of the present tendency to overload and the difficulty of renewing plant. Cr. L. Gant said that he wished to present further figures to the council and. on his motion, the matter was held over until the next council meeting. The council decided to make structural alterations to the Plunket rooms on the Pier, to allow better facilities for mothers. Crs. Chitty, C. Claydon, and Gant were reappointed to the committee of the Sumner Public Library.
