MAYOR’S REPLY TO PRIME MINISTER

-- ALLEGED STATEMENT BY UNION ORGANISER

(P.A.) PALMERSTON N„ March 17

Replying to the Prime Minister’s comment concerning an alleged statement by a union organiser to cheese factory workers, the Mayor (Mr A. E. Mansford) has sent the tollowing telegram to Mr Fraser:— “Your ingeniously worded Press Association message conveys the impression that I admit an oversight. Under normal conditions I would not accept this invidious position, but to-day my conception of my duty is to drop trivial personal feelings and give my time and energy to the biggest issue ever confronting the Dominion.”
