POSTHUMOUS AWARD OF D.F.C.

* CHRISTCHURCH MAN IN ROYAL AIR FORCE LONDON, March 13. The D.F.C. has been posthumously awarded to Flight Lieutenant Russell Ernest Orchard, of Christchurch. The citation with the award says that it is made “for gallantry and devotion to duty in the execution of air operations." Flight Lieutenant Orchard, whose age was 21, was reported missing in September, 1941. ”e was born at Rangiora and educated at St. Andrew’s College, Christchurch, He served in the Canterbury Regiment from 1936 to 1938. He received a commission in the Royal Air Force in 1938. and was promoted to flight lieutenant in June, 1941.
