TRIAL

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 15. The case against Thomas William Hanna, aged 29, a baker, charged with killing Reginald Clinton Duck, thereby manslaughter, was heard in aVi Magistrate's Court at Wellington. After evidence had been given by 16 witnesses, Hanna pleaded not guiltv and was committed for trial. Evidence was given to the effect that Hanna and another man, while anparently under the influence of liquor, and shortly after midnight, approached some taxis that were standing in Vivian street, near where the taxidrivers were attending a private dance. Hanna, it was stated, abusively demanded the use of a taxi and was told by Duck, who was a taxi-driver, aged

22, that the taxi drivers were oot working. A blow was struck and Duck fell down. Medical evidence was given that Duck died of laceration of the brain, a bruise being found on his forehead, and a fracture of the skull, which was thinner than normal
