APPEALS HEARD
MEN IN YEOMANRY CAVALRY MANPOWER COMMITTEE’S DECISION Most of the appeals heard by the Christchurch Manpower Committee yesterday were for farm workers called up with the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry. Mr J. S. Barnett presided, and with him were Messrs S. L. Wright and H. H. McCaw, members of the committee. Mr E. D. Thompson represented the Crown, and Captain J. Bowron the military authorities. Appeals by employers of members of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry were dealt with as follows; For Stanley W. Beatty, by his father, postponed to February 28; O’Halloran Estate for L. Woods and A. J. McDonald, farm hands, both postponed to February 14; Charles Stuart, Coalgate, for Colin Roseveare, a carter, postponed for one month; St. Helen's Station for M, E. Hawker, musterer, postponed to February 14; Munro Bros, for Maurice Hugh Gorrie, musterer, postponed to March 15; Captain Meyer for Herbert Clifford Bloor, farm hand, to be reviewed after one month; S, W. Syme for Francis Clifford Chappell, farm hand, postponed to March 15: M. W. S. Chapman for Raymond Will Chapman, adjourned sine die; same for Jesse Edward Chapman, postponed to February 1; B. R. Hoban for Gordon Daniel Hoban, farm hand, postponed for review on March 1; J. Irvine for L. W. Irvine, farm hand, postponed to March 1; J. W. K. Lawrence for John Hughes Lawrence, sheep station manager, postponed for four weeks; H. Oliver for Allan Douglas Oliver, farm hand, postponed to March 1; A. L. Trumper for Kenneth Stanley Pettigrew, musterer, postponed to February 15; Mrs E. F. Stead for Roland F. Stead, farmer postponed to February 6. Other appeals were dealt with as follows:—L. C. Latter for C. L. McElhinney. farm hand (2nd Battalion, Canterbury Regiment), adjourned sine die; A. J. Jamieson for W. K. Murray (National Reserve), released for four weeks; W. G. Dean for Douglas Gordon Dean, farm hand, postponed to February 14; S. J. McHarg for Samuel Douglas McHarg, bookbinder (National Reserve), dismissed. Arne Sandelin, an electrician, was released from territorial service for four weeks.
In a reserved decision, the committee granted a postponement of two months to Charles Greenland, a member of the National Reserve.
