Saving 100 Gallons a Month A co-ordinated bread delivery service has been arranged by the bakers in the Geraldine district, the Geraldine oil-fuel controller (Mr F. J. Shearer) told a representative of "The Press” yesterday, A two day a week service had been arranged, he said, but it would be necessary for farmers to provide boxes at their gates, A saving of 100 gallons of petrol a month would be made as a result of , reducing and co-ordinating bread delivery services at Geraldine, Mr Shearer said. Lighting Restrictions “Wide powers are given to the Dominion Lighting Controller or his deputy as to the adequate blacking-out of buildings, and they may require immediate provision to be made in any particular premises.” said the M (^yo r (Mr E. H. Andrews) yesterday. The order under the Lighting Restrictions Emergency Regulations, 1941. ’ said the Mayor, "is a legal instruction and merits the closest study of all who wish to know what their duties and obligations are in this matter now so vital to public safety.” Sports for Territorials The appreciation of the Territorial Association of Canterbury at the 100 per cent, response from the various sports clubs” in being prepared to offer their .sports facilities to territorials on leave was expressed by Colonel J. Murphv at the meeting of the association’s executive last evening. Colonel Murphy also praised the work of the sports committee. Among games or recreations which will be available to territorials through club offers are cricket, football, bowls, tennis, swimming. baseball, mountaineering, and others. Summaries of the facilities available wull be posted at all territorial camps in Canterbury. The committee will also consider a suggestion that an. inter-unit athletics meeting be arranged at Lancaster Park. Application for Petrol The executive of the Territorial Association of Canterbury decided last evening to apply to the Oil Fuel Controller iMr V. C. Lawn) for a licence for 20 gallons of petrol monthly for visits to various units, for undertaking concert parties, and for carrying out the association's work in general.
