APPEAL FOR WORKERS

—• — ENROLMENTS FOR YOUTH EMERGENCY SERVICE An appeal for volunteers—boys and girls from 12 to 18 years of age—for. the newly-formed Youth Emergency Service was issued yesterday by the Youth Centre at Christchurch. The service has been inaugurated to provide some voluntary labour for the dependants of men serving with the fighting forces. The scheme was designed to train children in the idea of doing some sort of voluntary service for their coun- / try, and to teach them to see the valt(fc*v of doing something without monetary n gam, said Mrs J. A. Crawford, of J&ie centre, yesterday. / Enrolment forms are now at the Youth Centre, and it was explained that children wishing to give their services should collect a form, talk the matter over with their parents, and, after completing it. return the form to the Youth Centre. Applicants may nominate the amount of time they are prepared to devote to the work each week. Their duties will be of a light nature, such as chopping wood, looking after children, mowing lawns, and weeding gardens. It was stated that arm bands or a distinguishing badge would be issued to members of the new corps. In keeping with the voluntary na- ; ture of the service, the organising officials at the Youth Centre are doing the routine work in their own time.
