DRUNKENNESS ' Angus McLean, sailor and labourer, aged 60. for drunkenness in a public place (Cathedral square), his third offence in the last six months, was fined 20s and ordered to pay costs, in default imprisonment for 48 hours. REMANDS Doreen Woodstock, domestic, aged 23, pleaded guilty to the theft on January 9 of a quantity of women’s apparel, valued at £l9 4s 9d, the property of Marjorie Playslid Cotton. She was remanded to January 19 for sent6DC6. Melville Gustave Clark, labourer, aged 19, charged with the theft on January 8 of £9 in money, a post office savings-bank pass-book, and a purse, of a total value of £9 3s 6d, the property of Elizabeth Mary Lange, was remanded to January 19. Kenneth John White (Mr E. S. Bowie), flight rigger, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Station, Wigram, was remanded to January 19 on a charge of stealing at Sockbum on or about November 1, 1941, a cycle, valued at £5, the property of John Neil Moloney. Bail in accused’s own recognisance of £SO was allowed, a condition being that he remain in the custody of the Air Force authorities. peal by Mrs J. Bain.—lt was stated that last September Court had been allowed a sine die adjournment. Since then his father had died, and now the reservist was the only man on a busy farm.—A request for a further sine die adjournment was allowed. R. R. Clark, musterer, appeal by Le Clerc Latter.—The manager of the farm on which Clark Is employed wrote saying mustering gangs were now in the middle of the busy season, but whether this work or military service was the more important was left to the committee to decide.—Training was postponed to May 1. Maxwell Alfred Tippet, N. G. Gilray, A, W. Knight, L. W. Jesson, apprentice fitters and turners, appeals by F. C. Penfold and Company, Ltd.—After a letter had been read explaining that each of the reservists was engaged on munition work, an adjournment sine die was allowed In each case. Frederick Kinley, machine moulder, appeal by Thomas Waddell and Sons, Ltd.Dismissed. William Gordon Ditfort, dairyman, appeal by L. G. Ditfort.—Training postponed to March 1. T. H. Lawn, manager, appeal by Booth, Macdonald and Company, Ltd.—Dismissed, the appeal to be reviewed in three months. Eric Leask, mechanic, appeal by Gough, Gough, and Hamer, Ltd.— I The appealing firm asked for release of reservist from camp for six weeks to assemble four header harvesters and train farmers in their application.—lt was decided to grant release from camp for four weks. Stanley Jacob Vivian, saw doctor, appeal by wife and H. E. Barnsley, accountant.—lt was stated reservist was engaged by contract to service implements for firms, many of which were engaged on important war production. Total exemption was not asked for, but only extra leave for one working day each week to get up to date with the present accumulation of work.—lt was decided to grant Vivian one week’s leave from camp. Lance-Sergeant Lindsay, sheet-metal worker, appeal by Vale and Company, Ltd.—A representative of the appellant firm said Lindsay was engaged on the manufacture of parts for Bren gun carriers, and he was a key man in the factory. It was decided to release Lindsay, the position to be reviewed in three months. C. J. W, Kinnaird, Arthur Holmes-Edge, apprentice fitter and turner, J. D. Searle, fitter, Hugh Smith, appeals by Andersons, Ltd.—Each of the reservists is now, or was before entering camp, engaged in the production of munitions or on military construction. Each of the appeals was adjourned sine die. B. J. Sutton, appeal by A. L. Sutton, father.—ln a written statement, the appellant said his three other sons were soldiers. The reservist’s mother was in ,bad health, and if this son were to go away it might have a bad effect on her condition.—Adjourned for further Inquiries.
