K.A.F. ATTACKS BREST
STRONG OPPOSITION MET GERMAN NIGHT FIGHTERS ACTIVE LONDON, January 12. The Air Ministry announces that bombers of the Royal Air Force made another attack last night on the German naval base at Brest. All the British aeroplanes returned safely. The German defences at Brest offered formidable opposition. Cones of searchlights bridged the mouth of the river, light and heavy flak was incessant, and night fighters were active. One Stirling had its windscreen splintered, three holes in the fuel tank, and other holes in the front turret, but it delivered its load of bombs on the docks. This routine operation is one of many which have kept the German battle-cruisers in Brest since March 31 last year, and has tied up squadrons of night fighters and hundreds of antiaircraft guns. An Air Ministry communique states that this morning a single enemy aircraft dropped bombs at a point on the north-east coast of Scotland. There has been no report of damage or casualties.
