LOSS OF U.S. ARMY TRANSPORT

DESTROYED BY FIRE IN ALASKAN WATERS (Received January 13, 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON. January 12. A United States war communique announced that the United States army transport Gilveden (7314 tons) was totally destroyed by fire in Alaskan waters. All the personnel aboard were saved. An investigation into the cause of the fire is proceeding.
