ALLIED SHIPPING MOVEMENTS
* ENEMY ATTEMPTS TO GAIN INFORMATION (8.0. W.) RUGBY, January 12. Enemy agents are increasing their endeavours to harass Britain’s lifeline, and Merchant Navy personnel are being asked to exercise greater vigilance at ports. Evidence has reached the Admiralty and the Minister for War Transport of increasing efforts to obtain advance information of Allied shipping movements. Ships’ officers have received official instructions on security measures they can adopt to countex-act attempts to interfere with shipping supplies. These instructions point out that the enemy will endeavour more and more to create dissatisfaction among British and Allied officers and men and attempt by sabotage to interfere with our shipping services. "In order that close touch should be kept with the security authorities, masters or such officers as they may appoint should establish close contact with consular officers who visit their ships and also with consuls or consular security officers in ports overseas.
