COST OF TRIAL BORES
♦ gravitation water supply FOR ASHBURTON A trial, bore to test the flow of water at the site of the proposed gravitation water scheme for Ashburton would cost about £IOO, said a letter from Mr H. G. Royds (consulting engineer), received at a meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council last evening. The Mayor (Dr. J. Connor) said that the original estimate for each test bore had been only about £ls. Mr Royds had inspected the area at Greenstreet, the letter stated, and had found sufficient water for this new system of supply- , , .. Mr H. G. Ferner asked if the materials f>.- th.‘ scheme would still be available in about three or four years' time. Dr. Connor said that the object of the test bore was to see that the flow 0 of water was steady. A period of two or three years would be necessary to make sure pf this. It was decided to refer the matter to the Works Committee, and request Mr Royds to confer with that committee. An agreement was received from the land officer of the Railway Department (Mr G. T. Davis), arranging for the area of land leased from the department by the council to include the reserve between Havelock and Burnett streets on the west side of. the line and also a small area to the north of Havelock street on the same side of the line.
