EMERGENCY PRECAUTIONS AT SUMNER
* The Sumner committee of the Emergency Precautions Services has decided to distribute a circular emphasising the necessity of householders complying with the Emergency Lighting Regulations and stressing the decision to impose penalties without further warning. The committee elected was: Messrs E. T. Chitty, F, W. J. Murdoch, W. de Thier. and T. Kearney. It was reported that arrangements had been completed to use the School for the Deaf buildings as an emergency hospital, and supplies of medical equipment were to be stored there at once. The Mayor reported that adequate warnibg was expected in the case of emergency, and that in the extreme case of warning of invasion the civil population would be evacuated. The Emergency Precautions Services £9Ol- - would have the ifull ed-ojiwa-tioh of the military authorities; and it was the duty of the corhriiittee to handle the transport and other neces- : sary arrangements. The traffic controller reported that during the blackout trial motors bad been driven over ( (he causeway at McCormick’s Bay with , full headlights on. and it was decided to write to the Main Highways authori- , tics for an explanation why this por- 1 tion of the road was not patrolled
