PARCEL TRAMS

Sir,—l note that Glasgow has a parcels tram to ease commercial cars. How it operates I cannot say, but it seems either at scheduled hours a special tram takes packages, etc., or it may be that on certain ordinary trams space is reserved. This may help commercial firms here to get goods to suburbs. It also seems that the . rush for trams consequent on less petrol will call for the use of more trailers. —Yours, etc., CITIZEN. December 15, 1941. [The general manager of the Christchurch Tramway Board (Mr H. E. Jarman) said yesterday that the question of parcels trams had not been considered so far by the board. Glasgow had the advantage of a huge population. and what might suit that city would not necessarily be suitable for Christchurch.]
