TROTTING NOTES New Brighton T.C. Nominations for the New Brighton Trotting Club’s spring meeting, to be held on December 6, will close at 5 p.m. to-morrow. 6 South Island-Bred South Island-bred horses practically won the programme at the Waikato Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday for the winners included the following:— Gaynor by Travis Axworthy— Mountain Rose; Eyenew by New Derby —Winkeye; Flower Potts by Jack Piptts—Marama Rose; Katene by Great Bingen—Lady Marvin; Nelson Carbine by Nelson Bingen—El Carbine mare; Passing By by Wrack—Doll Dance; and Oxford by Frank Worthy —Kate Logan. Auckland sportsmen appear anxious to take a big part in trotting, arid while they purchase many horses they breed few. Improvers V. Deeming had two improvers in Glenlee and Integrity engaged at the matinee meeting at New Brighton on Saturday and both showed up prominently in their engagements to collect the good trophies provided. Their next appearances will be at the Forbury Park meeting and both should race well on the opening day. Integrity, giving away 12 yards, will start in the Army Handicap of a mile and a half and his two good races at Addington, followed by Saturday’s effort, should bring him into favour. In this race he may find strong opposition coming from Safety Pin, who finished third to Knapdale Lass and Integrity in the Rlccarton Stakes. Glenlee is engaged in the Freyberg Handicap of a mile and three furlongs. Back to Form Southland’s next appearance will be in the Achilles Handicap at Forbury Park and his running at the matinee meeting on Saturday showed him to be in first-class order. He finished third to Nightbeam and Blaydon over a mile and a quarter in 2min 45sec after being well back in. the early stages. Springfield ulobe In decent starts Springfield Globe has displayed sensational speed and his work-out with Gold Bar on Saturday gave another indication of his brilliance. At Forbury Park he will be opposed by a big field on a track only five furlongs in circumference ana, giving away 24 yards, he may have a difficulty in going round his field especially when opposed to horses like Clockwork, Happy Locanda, Coquette, Walter Moore, and Fremont. A Useful Pair With Tan John‘and Biworthy C. S. Donald will be well represented in the trotting events at Forbury Park. In the Dominion Handicap at Addington Biworthy lost a lot of ground in the early stages and still had enough speed to beat all but the winner, Peggotty/ The C. S. Donald stable has been out of luck .of late but a useful team at Forbury Park should bring results.
TURF GOSSIP
Reminder Acceptances for the Ashburton County Racing Club’s summer meeting close to-night at 8 p.m., with the secretary, 'phone 61. —6 To Correspondent Turpino.—Prudent Prince was scratched for the Buchanan Memorial Handicap at 12.16 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, the day of the race. For Feilding M. Conza gave Roy Bun some good work yesterday and he will leave with the hurdler to-night, to compete at Feilding. Two Teams F. A. Roberts may have two teams on‘tour during the holidays. Salutation and Not Out are booked for Auckland, while Kinsman, Penny Whistle and the two-year-old Trapeze may go to Wingatui, with Kinsman and Penny Whistle at Waikouaiti and Oamaru in the following week. Southern Trip S. Barr is working Recollection, Sham Boy and the two-year-old. Prince Leighon, with a view to the Dunedin Christmas meeting, after which the first-named pair may go on to South-' land, where there are more hurdle races in which Recollection may compete. Spelling Though Night Dress raced well early in the season, he has not performed up to expectations in some of his recent outings. He is to have a spell and he will not be required to race again until the autumn. Lame Articulate pulled up lame after he had done some work at the end of last week and it looks as if he would require a spell, instead of joining T. Hobbs’s stable at Oamaru, as had been arranged. The Rabbi gelding had been for a week or two under the care of R. Register, who had succeeded in quietening him, so the mishap was very unfortunate. Southern Team Monetary has recovered from the mishap that prevented him from racing at Riccarton after the Stewards’ Handicap arid J. C. Tomkinson hopes to have nim ready for holiday engagements. He may do the Dunedin, Waikouaiti and Oamaru meetings, with Athens and Renarde as his mates. A trip to Trentham in January is also ifl view for these three. After a Spell F. A. Roberts has made another start on the imported grey mare, Portadown, who is in good health after a spell for about six months. Sent Home The three-year-old, Lord Dundas, who was raced on lease by Mr C. Holdsworth, has been sent back to his owner. F. D. Jones gave him a good chance early In the season, but he did not make the progress that was expected. West Coast Circuit Easily the largest Riccarton team for the West Coast holiday meetings will be that of M. Conza, as he expects to have eight horses under his care. Those in work for the trip are Roy Bun, Philibun, Skyrena, Te Maari, Caretaker, Rebel Lady, The Flying Fortress and Jocanta. National Sales For the National yearling sales, which will be held at Trentham in January, the entries total 216, made up of 139 colts and 77 fillies. The entries are only four less than were catalogued at the sales last January. For the Front The Auckland hurdle horseman, H. C. Maria, has handed in his jockey’s licence to the Racing Conference as he is due to leave shortly with the forces for overseas. Back in Southland The Southland hurdler Merry Simon was in F. Trilford’s stable at Washdyke for some time after he raced at the Grand National meeting, and during that period he showed good form. After the recent meeting at Riccarton he was sent back to his home quarters in F. J. Boyle’s Southland stable. May be Retired According to a report from the south, Boswell was making his final appearance as a racehorse when he finished out of a place in the Southland Cup on Saturday, and it is understood he is to take up stud duties at his owner’s place at Otautau. Boswell is by Balboa from the imported mare Celerity 11, by Gainsborough. Apart from his breeding and his good looks, he has an excellent race record, including a win at Trentham last month. Royal Stable Big Game, a two-year-old colt by the Derby winner, Bahram, now doing stud duties in America, recently scored his fifth win in succession for His Majesty the King. The Royal stable is having its most successful season since 1933. Successful Family Among the winners at the Southland meeting on Saturday were two horses from the successful family founded by Fairform, a Boniform mare, from Satisfaire, by Birkenhead —Content, a granddaughter of imported Hammock. Boaform, having her first race this season when she won the Flying Handicap, Is a seven-year-old m%re by Balboa from Some Form, who was'Fairform’s first foal, by Some Boy 11. Later in the day Platform won a division of the Trial Handicap. He is a four-year-old by Night Raid from Fairform. The earlier progeny of Fairform -included Rin Tin Tin, Charmaine, and Tauramal, all good winners. Charmaine is the dam of Rawhamai, a successful member of A. S. Ellis’s Riccarton team. Another of Fairform’s daughters is Fairwood, dam of the Paper Money two-year-old Junior, also in work at Riccarton, where he is now showing promise of doing some service for E. C. Parker’s stable.
