DOG TRIALS
UOUTH ISLAND GHAMR|ONSHIP AT TAI TAPU The South Island Sheep Dog Association decided, at a meeting at Oamaru during the week-end, to hold the South Island Championship trials at Tal Tapu, beginning on June 15. The Ellesmere Club was asked to make arrangements. Mr J. Matson, of Christchurch, presided. The following classes and points were approved:—Long pull; Head 44, pull 44, hold in ring 12. Yarding: Head 36, pull 36, work at yard 20, yard 8. Huntaway: First poles 33, second 33, third 34. It was agreed to retain the present system of two poles, the first set to be two chains apart, and a reasonable distance from the pen, and the second and third sets to be not less than one chain apart, this to apply at championships and all club trials. _ . The Judges appointed were Mr J. A. Nelson, Winton (huntaway), and Mr M, A. Matheson. Middlemarch (heading). It was decided that all clubs be advised that the points adopted should apply to all South Island trials, the time for any standard event to be not less than 10 minutes. ' The question of alterations to the rules was held over until after the war. Otago Championships The Otago Provincial Championships will be held at Warepa, commencing with local events on May 19 and 20, and championships on May 21 and 22. A ruling was given that a dog trial held by a ploughing match association should be rated as a trial subject to the association’s rules.
