COMPETITIONS CONTINUED Light ruin which fell in the early afternoon on Saturday made play tricky on the grass courts at Wilding Park when the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s first grade mixed competitions were continued. The rain, which was not heavy enough to cause the abandonment of games, stopped about 3.30 o'clock, and the warm conditions of the later afternoon dried the grounds considerably. The first round of a combined third grade and under 21 competition was also played. Results were:— Elmwood B v. Woolston Men's Singles.—E. F. M. Kenny beat L. Blackwell 9-6, K. G. Heley lost to A. SCHOOLS’ COMPETITION CONTINUED The second round in the boys’ section of the inter-primary schools’ competition was completed on Saturday morning in overcast weather. One of the surprises of the day was the win of the Ladbrooks team, a late entry, which beat Bromley 6-0. All the boys showed keen Interest in the matches, and several players produced excellent form for schoolboys. Two matches in the girls’ tournament which were postponed from last Saturday were also played. Results were:— Boys’ Matches. —St. Albans beat Cathedral Grammar by default: Opawa beat Linwood, 4-2; Marist A beat Waimalri, 30 games to 26; Marist B beat Elmwood B, 5- Elmwood A beat East Christchurch, 4-2; Ladbrooks beat Bromley, 6-0; Fendalton beat Victory. 6-0; Redcliffs beat Phillipstown, 6-0; Cashmere beat Addington. Convent, 5-1. Girls’ Matches. —Wharenui beat Addington Convent B, 4-2; Addington Convent A beat St. Joseph’s A, 5-1.
