FATE OF GERMAN AIR ACE
BERLIN REPORTS DEATH OF YON WERRA LONDON, November 21. Berlin has announced that Baron von Werra, one of Germany’s foremost air aces, has been killed in action, although it was stated last month that he had been shot down and taken prisoner, for the second time, by the British. Von Werra was shot down near London in September, 1940. He twice escaped from war prisoners’ camps in Britain before he was transferred to Canada. There he escaped from a prison camp and reached the United States, where he was arrested for illegal entry. He was released on a bond of £2500, but he absconded and left the United States,’.on a faked Swiss passport. He eventually reached Germany.
