BIG CONTRACT LET
City Church to Cost £32,627 BUILDING OF THE NEW ST. MARY’S A contract for £32.627 was signed in the city yesterday for the building of the new St. Mary’s Roman Cathohc Church, in Salisbury street. The successful tenderer was C. S. Luney and Company. It is expected that the job will be completed between 18 months and two years from now.. Eight tenders were received for the job. The highest or them was £42,748, and the lowest that of the successful decision was made by an ecclesiastical committee, members of which were the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, the Rt. Rev. Dr. Brodie the Provincial of the Society of in New Zealand, the Very Rev Dr. V. Geaney, and the parisH priest of St. Mary’s, the Very Rev. Father T. M. job, three houses have to be remoyed from the prospective site, in Sahsbuiy street, between Colombo Manchester streets. A smaller contract nas also been let for their purchase and demolition. Two of the houses are stiff occupied. It is expected that work will begin on the ]ob within a m The. architect for the new church is Mr A. H. Manson.
