The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister for Health, was a passenger from the north by the steamer express yesterday. The Hon, Adam Hamilton, a member of the War Cabinet, was a passenger from the North Island by the steamer express yesterday. A memorial tablet to Mr W. J. Toomey will be placed by the Canterbury Yacht and Motorboat Club in the wall of the Gladstone pier, Lyttelton, at the point from which Mr Toomey, who was a life member of the club, started and judged races. The Lyttelton Harbour Board yesterday gave its consent to the erection of the tablet. Sympathy with Mr Cyrus J. R. Williams In his illness and hopes for his quick recovery were expressed by the Lyttelton Harbour Board at its meeting yesterday. Mr Williams is a former secretary-engineer to the board. Mr F. Brittliff, who has retired after a period of 45 years’ service on the Halswell river, and who has spent the latter part of his service in the employ of the Ellesmere Lands Drainage Board,, will receive from the board a letter expressing appreciation of his work and wishing him a happy retirement. This decision was taken unanimously at a meeting of the board yesterday. The Lyttelton Harbour Board decided yesterday to send a message of congratulation to Mr J. H. Upham, who is the board’s solicitor, on the award of the Victoria Cross to his son, Second-Lieutenant C. H. Upham.
