FIRM BUT QUIET Firm but quiet conditions prevailed on call on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, and the recorded turnover was small. Apart from vestibule business, the following transactions were recorded:— Sales nn ’Change: Listed Stocks; 100 New Zealand Breweries. 365; 200 Woolworths, 'Ltd., 16s 6d; 100 Woolworths, S. Africa, 17s. Sales Reported: Listed Stocks: 100 N.Z. Refrigerating (£1- paid), 21s; 800 Woolworths, Ltd. (3), 16s 6d; 100 Woolworths, S. Africa. 17s; 200 Woolworths Properties. 26s 6d. Government Stocks Firmer Buyers’ offers for New Zealand Government 3*i per cent. 1953-57 and 1960 issues and the 4 per cent. 1955 issues revealed firmer markets. Buyers of Union' Bank of Australia moved up to £7 ss, without attracting sellers. United Building were firmer on buyers’ offers, 21s 9d. New Zealand Refrigerating (£1 paid) were easier, with business at 21s, and further unsupported sellers at 21s 2d. New Zealand Breweries remained unaltered at 365, and more were wanted at that price, sellers at 36s 3d. There was a closer market for Broken Hill Proprietary, which were quoted 39s 9d buyers, 40s 3d sellers. Sellers of Electrolytic Zinc (pref.) came down to 54s 6d, buyers at 51s. Woolworths, Ltd., were easier, with dealings at 16s 6d, market closing Id either way. Woolworths Properties were steady at 26s 6d, and late unsupported sellers wanted 265-Od.
