Mrs J. N. Hamilton (St, Albans) has returned from a short visit to Dunedin. Miss Sylvia: M. Thomson (Kaikoura) has left for Dunedin to spend a holiday with her sister. Miss Helen.Thomson, of the Home Science School, Otago University.

IV{iss Lucy Bishop presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Young Women’s Christian Association Business and Professional Women’s Club, and made a presentation, to Miss Phyllis Hastings, an active member, who will leave shortly for Palmerston North. Mrs J. McLeod, organising secretary of the Stratheona Hostel, South Canterbury, gave a talk on the work of the hostel. Members of the committee of the Home’ Service Association were specially invited guests. Miss E. E. Innes, who is leaving the Marshland School for a teaching position at the Birdling’s Flat School, was ?uest of honour at a party arranged by members of the school committee. The pupils gave a short programme of items, and speakers were Messrs D. Goode (chairman of the School Committee), E. Meyer, G. Chisnall, E. Cooper, and K. R. Marks, On behalf of the Marshland Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and the' sub-centre of the Red Cross Society, Mrs Marks spoke. Presentations were made to Miss Innes, and afterpoon tea was served. The lady editor of “The Press” gratefully acknowledges two large hand-knitted scarves for men on minesweepers, one from “K.P.,” Timaru, and the other from “Gratitude.”

A social to honour Private E. Mugford was arranged by .he residents of Marshland and held in' the local hall. Visiting soldiers also honoured were Privates Burke and McMillan. Speakers were Messrs W. J. Walter and T, Morton, and Mr Keith Harris was master of ceremonies. Music was played by the Messrs McFadden, and items were given by the Marshland Harmony Band, Mrs R. Crozier, songs, and Miss Audrey Eady recitations.’ To honour Private I. Vivien a social and dance was held in the Broadfield schoolroom. Music for dancing was played by Messrs C. Wallace and B. Crossen. Winners of the novelty dances were Miss P. Wallace and Mr Musgrove, and Mr and Mrs Blazey. Mr R. 0. White was master of ceremonies. Presentations were made to the guest of honour from the Broadfleld residents by Mr G. Simpson, and from the Broadfield sub-centre of the Red Cross by Mrs W. Wallace. Items were given by Messrs C.
