TRAP SHOOTING
VALE SHIELD WON BY ELLESMERE
The annual teams’ match' for the Christchurch Gun Club’s Vale Shield on the club grounds at Sockburn on Saturday, was won by the Ellesmere Gun Club’s No. 1 team. The Ellesmere and Christchurch clubs fielded two teams each, being the only competitors. Conditions of the match were seven men a team, 12 birds off 21 yards mark. The shield has been competed for 16 times, Ellesmere and Christchurch having won it eight times each. The final team scores were;—Ellesmere No. 1, 72 points; Christchurch • No. 1, 65: Ellesmere No. 2, 64; Christchurch No. 2, 64. The best individual scores were:—W. Quigley 12; T. Gordon, W. Patterson, E. Hammond, C. Gilbert, W. Winchester, L. B. Johnson 11; A. A. Greenwood, F. Graham, H. Grennell, P. Chamberlain, L. Chambers, E, A. Washbourne, F. W. Brightllng 10. . Quigley took first prize money in an optional sweepstake held in connexion with the match, all shooters with: one off dividing the balance of the stake. In a seven-bird sweepstake of 31 shooters, the possibles divided the prize money. Best scores were:—W. Bowman, C. R. Ogier, H. Grennell, A. Greenwood (seven birds), E. Hammond, D. Dorreen, G. M. Doyle, F. L. Knowles, F. W. Brightling, W. Quigley, jun., J. Parkin, L. Johnson (six birds). The third match was a 10-bird clay pigeon handicap in which 24 competed, the possibles again dividing . the stake. Scores:—A. N. Turner, F. Graham, G. McNab, A. Greenwood, H. Grennell, E. Washbourne, R. S. Taylor, 10 birds; H. Warden. J. Parkin, G. M. Doyle, K. Wilson, L. Chammbers, C. R. Ogier, A. Prestney, D. S. Dorreen, nine birds. Mr L. A. Shand was referee.
