MAORIS TAKE PART
AUCKLAND PARADE (P.A.) AUCKLAND, June 21. Between lanes of applauding Aucklanders, reinforcements of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force marched through the -city to-day led by the Papakura Camp Band and accompanied by other bands at Intervals. Marching in compact columns of sixes, the troops made a fine showing, especially the infantry; who were wearing drill order with arms and haversacks, their fixed bayonets glinting in the sunshine. The bearing of the Maori reinforcements called forth enthusiastic bursts of applause throughout the whole route.
The salute was taken at the Town Hall by Brigadier P. H. Bell, who was attended by the Mayor (Mr j; A. C. Allum), the Hon. P. K. Paikea, and representatives of the services. ’ Returned soldiers lined Queen street on either side at |he base. The troops later entrained lor Papakura.
The parade was commanded by Major E. Tiisey.
