N.Z. WOOL PACKS
Sir,—l was veiy gladto see what Mr Begg had to say to farmers about the New Zealand wool pack Industry and I hope all sheepfanners. will read, mark; leam. aira; inwardly digest the . coatmtß>-of'«his statements. Has the Mlhistm.ever ;up ‘to ■ the ; lleht of day onCofv packs?) -If so,- his -J,vision lof the«SdrEoundmg country would not have been much ob ll scured. Dust in transport must penetrate the pack, thus discolouring the wool, and I question; whether they are fit to put scoured-wool into, The Minister says at some very vague time jute packs would have* cost>the fanner 8s or 7s (probably including 2s import duty),, hut he does not say what jute pack* "should" cost the. farmer to-day (freed import'duty)., The cost wpuld prObably be about 3s Od. In of a heavy protectlonal duty paid by farmers, his wonderful Industry, I ■ understand,’not so long ago made a working deficit of about £4OOO. (This is what.Cccll Rhodes called “The nursing’ of bastard Industries.") I tnntthe sheepfarmer will not swallow the' Minlster’s sugar-coated - lollypoft t wh?h its cDntents are highlyindlgestlue—Yours: etc., R. B. NEILL. ‘Mount Somers. June 7. 1941.
