A FINE FOR CRUELTY
Sir,—ln; viewofallthat has 1 - been ' written -about this case. I think, it is Only fair 1 to the one concerned that the following Incident should be made public, Two winters ago there was camped on the river bank, about a mile from Mr Barker’s gate t a returned, soldier. When the .winter, rains and cold set in, ‘ bis condition was exceedingly miserable, so: Mr Barker/ went along and incited him to his home,; gave him a place in the family circle and genera. made him feel that there was eone at least who did care. Now, personally, I cannot believe that one who wpuld da; this-would be deliberately chlel to a dumb animal; lam wondering how many animal lovers invited; this returned man in to their fireside;! am also wondering how many writers-in this, case, know of the charapterlof the Bitesian : wolf. It la said.o£!his' ? anhnal that when one of its, huniber suffers a misfortune, instead of helping it, they, fall upon it and tear it to pieces.—Yours, etc., ; W. A. TAYLOR.
