ANNUAL MEETING
NURSE MAUDE ASSOCIATION “Is the Hospital Board going to take over the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association? This is a question I have been asked more than once lately," said Mr D. J. Shea, chairman of the finance committee of the District Nursing Association, when reviewing the^finances of the association at the annual meeting yesterday. “TO' this, I answer emphatically .-‘No.’ The board has no such intention, and the 'Nurse Maude Trust Board would be the last to agree to such a scheme.” The chairman (Mr F. W. Anderson), who presided over a record attendance, Mr Shea, and the matron (Miss M. Corkill) agreed that the recently inaugurated scheme for closer co-operation with the hospital was working admirably, and in time would prove of even greater benefit to both the hospital and the Nurse Maude Association. Dealing with the finances of the association, Mr Shea said that donations to the association and to the Nurse Maude Memorial Fund had both dropped to some extent, and the proceeds from the clothes sales were also slightly less, but donations from patients had increased, and for this satisfactory result he thanked the nurses whd, at his request, had impressed upon patients the voluntary nature of the association and that it received no social security. “And I realise,” he said, "that asking for money is the hardes 1 part of the nurses’ work.” He appealed to all to continue their donations to the association. He. said that nurses now attended cases beyond the three miles radius, which had formerly been the limit, but in time he hoped that the service might; be extended to a seven miles radius, so that all the industrial parts of the city could be included in the scheme. But for that extension a greater staff would be needed. Mrs W. G. Roberts asked if it could be arranged that a district nurse should visit Lyttelton, perhaps twice a week. ; The committee promised to give the ; matter early consideration. Lady Acland, the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, and the Hon. Wt Hayward were re-elected to the committee. Miss Corkill briefly outlined the ‘ work of the year and thanked members of the staff for their loyalty,’ Miss Good and Miss McPherson, who helped the nurses every Saturday afternoon, the Women’s Land Army for vegetables for distribution amongst needy families, and all women’s organisations and individual benefactors in both city arid country. Messrs J. P. Whatman. P. B. Hume, and H. L. Bowker thanked, the matron and staff and the committee of the clothing sales.
