DIFFICULT YEAR AHEAD
SOUTH CANTERBURY DRAMA LEAGUE The difficulties which the* South Canterbury Drama League must expect to face in the coming year were referred to by the president, Dr. W. H. Unwin, at the annual meeting of the league. It was decided to urge affiliated clubs to combine in the presentation of one-act plays, and perhaps a more ambitious three-act play, in an effort to offset the difficulties. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Dr. Unwin said that the branch was beginning the year _ with rather diminished finances, arid an effort should be made during the year to raise funds. The following officers were elected:. Patron, Dr. W. H. Unwin; president, Mr A. E. Lawrence; vice-presidents, Mesdames T. E. Holdgate and R. D. King, Messrs W. G. Tweedy and C. F. Clarke; executive committee, Mrs F; F. A. Ulrich, Miss F. Sunaway, Messrs C. W7 Don, J. Prendergast, L. Collins, G. Griffiths; property committee, Messrs J; Prendergast (convener), A. Adkins, and sitting member, with power to add; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. L. Warsaw; auditor, Mr C. G.' Bryan King. High praise for the work done by Dr. Unwin for the South Canterbury League and for the cause of drama in New Zealand generally was given by Mr A. E. Lawrence, who said the league was established as a result of Dr. Unwin’s enthusiasm. He also paid a tribute to his dramatic work, which, he said, had been outstanding.
