HURUNUI SEAT
NATIONAL PARTY SELECTION . Although the National Party decided ‘some months ago that its candidates for the general election were to be selected by the end of April, it is not expected that the electorate committee will meet’ at .Rangiora until three weeks, hehce to choose a candidate for the Hurunui seat, which the Rt. Hon. G. W.’Forbes will not again contest. Six candidates are likely to go to the ballot They are . Messrs. M. Bethell (Culverden), A. Cowie (Hawarden), O,T. Evans, C. G. Gardner (Waiau), M. E. Lyons (Christchurch), and D, 5. Mackenzie (Happy Valley). Tlje name of an Amberley resident has-been freely mentioned in National Party Circles as a likely candidate, but he said, in reply to an inquiry last night, that he was not an aspirant. Ip.response to requests made to him, Mr Colin G, Gardner, of Emu Station, Waiau, has agreed that his name should: be submitted to the electorate committee. ■;
