KAIKAKI BEACH

♦ AREA OF 250 ACRES FOR DOMAIN An area of 250 acres adjoining the Kairaki beach reserve is to be set aside as a domain. It will be placed under the control of the Kaiapoi Borough Council, acting in the capacity of a domain board. The Commissioner of Crown Lands advised the council this week that the Minister for Lands had approved of this proposal, and asked the council’s assurance that the erection of residential buildings on the area would not be permitted. The council decided to give the assurance asked. Mr C. Morgan Williams. M.P., wrote to the council enclosing a letter from the Minister for Lands on the extended survey of sections at the Pines Beach reserve. The Minister’s letter stated that, after consultation with the Surveyor-General, the approval of the proposfed new survey had been agreed to provided the area comprising lots 58 and 63 and Seaview place were set aside as a recreation area. It was decided that the reservation be agreed to. It was decided to write to thd Rangiora County Council asking if the council would consider the provision in this year’s estimates for its portion of the cost of sealing the roadway along the poplar avenue to the beach. •
