BARRY’S BAY AUTUMN SHOW
The Barry’s Bay autumn show was held at the Oddfellows’ Hall on Saturday, when there was a smaller number of entries than usual. Petrol restrictions and the damage done to flowers by the recent rain accounted for smaller entries. Mr B. Swift, president, thanked the exhibitors for their support and the many willing helpers who made the show such a success. Mr F. R. E. Davis, Mayor of Akaroa, praised the committee for carrying on in war time, and congratulated the exhibitors on the splendid display. Special prizes were won as follows: Section A: Mrs H. Haylock (trophy given by Mrs R. Stewart). Section B: Mrs R. A. C. Rhodes (trophy given by Mrs R. Stewart). Section C: Derek Weir (trophy given by Mr A. E. Kingston). Section D: Mrs R, Stewart (trophy given by Mr W. J. Thompson). Section E: Mrs T. W. Weir (trophy given by Mrs R. A. H. Stewart). Section F: Mrs R. A. C. Rhodes (trophy given by Mr C. D. Sealey). Section G: Mrs R. Stewart (trophy given by Mrs T. W. Weir). Section H: Mrs B. Swift (trophy given by Mr T. Jordan). Cup for most points gained at show: Mrs R. Stewart. Special prize for most original entry: Derek Weir. Mr T. Stewart’s prize for home-made bread: Mrs Alan Stewart. Mr T. Stewart’s prize for rich fruit cake; Mrs R. Stewart.
