CROSS COUNTRY RACE

♦_ — ANNUAL EVENT AT BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL

More than 450 pupils took part in the annual cross-country race of the Christchurch Boys’ High School yesterday. W. R. Wilkinson (senior), who won the event last year, was first home with a comfortable lead. His time was 22min 54sec. A strong southerly wind which was blowing handicapped the runners and made the times slower than usual. M. Craighead. another senior, was second. In the intermediate section R. E. L. Thomson came first, while P. J. Batchelor led the juniors home. f The course was a strenuous . one of about three miles through paddocks; roads, and bush surrounding the school.
