ATHLETICS
JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS ON FEBRUARY 22 PLANS FOR REMAINDER OF SEASON The Canterbury junior and women’s amateur athletic championships will be held at Rugby Park on February 22. There will be a full programme, with the exception of the women's 220 yards, which has been deleted from the list of championship events by the New Zealand council. The executive of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Centre, at a meeting over which' Mr D. W. Bain presided last evening, decided to hold the following open scratch races on the day of the junior championships:—loo yards, 220 yards, 440 yards, one mile, half-mile walk, and pole vault. There will be no senior championships this year. l The executive decided, however, to hold on March 8 at Rugby Park a Metropolitan and Services championship meeting, with a full championship programme. Junior and women athletes will on that date be competing in the New Zealand junior and women’s championships at Wanganui, On other Saturdays—to-morrow, February 15, March 3, March 15, and March 22 a series of meetings similar to those already held this season will be conducted at Rugby Park. Advice was received from the New Zealand council that a junior hammer throw (121b) would be added to the championship programme in 1942. It was reported that an inter-island Services or Inter-Services match was planned in Wellington, probably for March 1. The proposal was to be discussed by the New Zealand council with the Service authorities. An invitation was received from the Wellington centre to send a team to Wellington for an interprovincial content on March 1. taut it was decided to reply that it would be impossible to do so.
