At the annual meeting of the Tai Tapu Cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd., yesterday, a resolution was passed placing on record the long and valued services given by Mr John Sharp, who had been a director of the company from 1904 and chairman from 1932 until his death last year, and by Mr T. M. Rainey, who was a director from 1908 until his death this year. The Waimairl County Council at its meeting last* evening congratulated one of its members, Mr J. Halligan, on his appointment as a Justice of the Peace. Mr C. Morgan Williams, M.P., was a passenger for the north by the steamer express last evening. Mr R. McPherson, Wheat and Flour Controller, returned to Christchurch last evening after a short visit to Greymouth. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr F. J. Smith, secretary and general manager of the Canterbury Central Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., who died recently, was passed at the annual meeting of the company yesterday. . . Members of the executive committee of the Invercargill Returned Soldiers’ Association expressed pleasure at the appointment of MajorGeneral Sir Andrew Russell as InspectorGeneral of the New Zealand Military Forces at a meeting of the committee which was held on Monday night. It was decided to, write to Sir Andrew conveying the association’s congratulations to him pn his appointment.
