HIGHER CHARGES FOR ELECTRICITY
♦ Waimairi County Supply Higher charges for electricity under several forms of supply are to be made by the Waimairi County Council. A new scale of charges adopted by the council last evening provided for an increase of approximately £2500 a year in revenue. A resolution of the council’s electricity and finance committees was approved as follows: “That in order to strengthen the financial' position of the electrical undertaking, and improve the margin of safety endangered by the additional charges and costs created by the present economic conditions, the following amendments be made in electricity charges:— (1) the present discount of Id in the shilling allowed for due payment of accounts be abolished; (2) a penalty of Id in the shilling be imposed on all accounts not paid by due date; (3) that the present charges for water heating be altered as follows: (a) the 10-hour rate at 3s 6d a month be altered to a 12-hour rate at 5s a month; (b) the 12-hour rate at 5s a month be altered to a 14-hour rate at 7s 6d a month, (c) the 18-hour rate at 10s a month be altered to 12s 6d a month.”
