TRAP SHOOTING
ELLESMERE CLUB Six teams—two each from (he Elles- : mere and Christchurch Gun Clubs, and 1 one each from the North Canterbury Gun Club and the Belfast-Kaiapoi Gun Clubmet on the Christchurch Gun Club's grounds on Saturday afternoon to compete for the Christchurch Gun Clubs Vale Shield, which is shot for annually and is open to South Island teams affiliated to the New Zealand Gun Clubs' Association. The conditions were seven men to a team, 12 birds off 21 yards mark, and the match resulted in a win for the Ellesmore Gun Club. The teams scores were EUesmere Gun Club No. 1 team 61. Christchurch Gun Club No. 2 team 60. Christchurch Gun Club No. 1 team 55. North Canterbury Gun Club 51. Belfast-Kaiapoi Gun Club 49, and EUesmere Gun Club No. 2 team 45. Assisted by a Rood breeze, the birds were very tricky and were difficult to shoot, there being no possibles scored. The best individual scores were: F. L. Knowles 11, J. Brightling 11, W. L. Donald 11, 1. G. Watkins 11. L. Lemon 10 E A. Washboume 10. E. Hammond 10. In an optional sweep held with the annual match. F. L. Knowles and J. Brightling divided first and second prize money, and E. A. Washbourne and E. Hammond divided third prize money. A 10-bird clay pigeon sweepstake shot on the five track system resulted in c. Everett and A. N. Turner shooting a possible to divide first and second money, and nine competitors with one off divided the third prize money. The best scores were:—C. Everett 10. A. N. Turner 10, A. E. Brightling 9, J. F. Parkin 9. G. M. Dovle 9. S. Lugg 9. F. Burgess 9 I. G. Watkins 9. A. B. Kerr 9, F. L. Knowles 9, W. Winchester 9. Mr L. A. Shand was referee.
