SATURDAY (Before Mr H. A. Young, S.M. REMANDED Robert Arthur- Ayers was remanded until to-day on the charge that he converted a car worth £225. the property of Mackintosh Caley Phoenix, Ltd., on August 22 A young woman, whose name was suporessed in the meantime, was remanded until to-day on a charge of being idle and disorderly. UNLAWFULLY ON ENCLOSED PREMISES Vernon Patrick Rowlands, a labourer, aged 51. was charged that on Augus* 23 he was unlawfully but in cireuirsvances tnat did not disclose the commission ot or the intent to commit any other crime on the enclosed premises of 40 Harper street Set ior-Sergeani J. Bickerdike said that Rowlands had gone into a bach on the property for a rest, and when the r.oiice were called he was lying down fully dressed and under the influence of UquM. Rowlands admitted having taken out a prohibition order in October, 1939. The Magistrate askea the accused whether he could get over his spree in seven days, and sentenced him to imprisonmem for that period. BICYCLE STOLEN Will*am Gunn was charged that on August 14 he stole a bicycle worth £4 the p-operty of John Robert Baxter. Senior-Sergeant Bickerdike said that the bicycle had been taken from an alleyway and sold later The accused was at present serving a sentence for a similar offence, committed about the same time. Gunn was convicted and discharged. SCRAP METAL STOLEN William Bennett Palmer faced three charges of stealing copper and lead from A. and T. Burt, Ltd. DetectiveSergeant A. A. Herron said that Palmer was employed by the complainant In February he had stolen scrap metal worth £6 19s, in August scrap metal worth £3 17s 6d. and again m August scrap metal worth £4. A trap had been set and he had been caught with the last lot, though he had sold the amount which was worth £lO 16s 6d. Mr G. G. Lockwood, for Palmer, said that in good times he had bought a car and when he lost some of his formerly regular overtime he had taken the metal to keep up the payments on his car. It was his first lapss and there was no suggestion that he would ever do the same again The Magistrate would not suppress Palmer's name. He admitted him to probation for 12 months, with a condition that he lepay £lO 16s 6d.
