COMMUNITY SINGING
* MASTER BUTCHERS RAISE £2OO The Civic Theatre was packed to the doors last ’ night for , the community sing organised as part of the Master Butchers’ war effort. A cheque for £2OO was handed over to the Navy League to buy comforts for New Zealand sailors. The audience’s enthusiasm produced some vigorous singing, which was enjoyed by everyone, including a number of members of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who were present. The City of Christchurch Highland Pipe Band, under Pipe-Major J. Paterson, was in attendance, and Mrs Warrilow played the organ. Mr J. S. Buckler was song leader and Mr Reg. Paddi was pianist. Additional items were given by Master Andrew McDougall, Miss June Bassett, and Mr T. E, West. Mr §. Hughes, president of the Master Butchers’ Association, gave a patriotic address and thanked the crowd for its generosity.
