ACCIDENTS
* YOUNG MAN SERIOUSLY BURNED CAUGHT IN TUSSOCK FIRE [From Our Own Reporter.] WAIMATE, July 30. Suffering from ' extensive burns to the face, hands, and legs through being caught in a tussock tire, a young man, Alec Sheddan, of Waimate, was admitted to the Waimate Public Hospital and his condition last night was stated to be fairly serious. Sheddan was laying poison for rabbits on the Elephant Hills estate, and was working on a steep face when his mate at the foot of a hill some distance off lit a fire in the tussocks to show his position. A sudden change of wind occurred, and Sheddan was trapped by the fire. . . Sheddan was conscious when he was taken to the homestead some four miles away, to be taken to the hospital. He is fairly well known as an amateur boxer CHILD SUFFERS BURNS Elaine Crundwell, aged four, of 17 Johns road, Belfast, was admitted to the Public Hospital last evening. She had upset a pan of hot gravy over herself, and was suffering from burns on her face and right arm. Her condition was not serious.
